A copper ore stockpile accumulates successive layers delivered by a semi-mobile segmented conveyer belt system. A first conveyer belt segment delivers ore at the base of the stockpile to a release point that migrates between both ends of the stockpile. At the release point, the migrating ore pick-up belt raises ore to the top of the pile for transfer to a segmented conveyer belt straddling the top of the pile. The segmented conveyer belt has a track-mounted side-transfer section to a further conveyer belt. The segmented conveyer consists of a base unit (70), intermediate standard extensions (71) and a head transfer unit (72).
