The method is for the exact positioning of a buffer with cushioning effect for a component alterable in position, such as a door, flap or similar on a vehicle bodywork. Whilst the component alterable in position is removed from the buffer, the buffer (1) is fixed in a pre-installation position to the bodywork (2). Next, the position-alterable component is moved onto the buffer and transferred to its end position, whereby the buffer is pushed into its intended position. Afterwards, the position-alterable component is removed again from the buffer, whereby the buffer remains stable in its intended position. In the removed position of the position-alterable component, the buffer is finally fixed in its intended position. The buffer contains a blind hole (3), in which a bracing component (4) is inserted, and in which a screw (5) is arranged.
