A method of determining the temperature- and magnetic field-dependent of the current-carrying capability of a bismuth strontium calcium copper oxide high-temperature superconductor (Bi2223 HTS) comprises assuming that current flows in a parallel network of a weak links and a strong links path and that the sum of these critical currents then gives the total capability. Only three experimental parameters - the critical currents in the weak and strong links and the critical temperature in the weak links path - plus four universal values, are used in the determination.
