The method involves utilizing an extension length of a safety belt (1) to establish the identities of users (A, B, C). The users in all seats of a motor vehicle are identified, and variables of seats and/or mirror positions and/or an audio and/or video system and/or an air conditioning system are adjusted to individual user parameters. Changes in the utilization behavior of the users are incorporated, and additional parameters are incorporated during the identification of the users.
