To apply a fiber coating to a porous body, especially for an internal combustion motor exhaust gas filter, the body is extruded of silicon carbide or cordierite and soaked in a suspension containing the fibers. The body is then heated to 500-1100[deg]C for sintering. The suspension contains an inorganic bonding agent of aluminum oxide, zirconium oxide and/or silicon oxide. The fibers are of alpha aluminum oxide, gamma Al2O3, Al2O3 transition alumina and/or a mixture of Al2O3 and SiO2 or ZrO2.
