This assembly is used on a machine tool. The tool base (28) resting surface (36) supports the tool in use, at a support region (38) of the tool attachment unit (2). A fastening formation (30) extends from the tool base (28), for direct attachment onto the tool fastening unit. This (30) includes a device (34) designed to accept a force acting on the fastening formation at a first angle to the tool axis, such that a resultant force is directed along the tool longitudinal axis, pushing the resting surface (36) in the direction of the tool resting region (28).
