A liquid vaporizer comprises a porous metal fibre body (2) enclosed in a gas tight, thermally conductive housing (10) with a liquid inlet (3) and vapour outlet (7). The inlet end of the housing has a liquid plenum (4) and a perforated plate distributor (5); the outlet is preceded by a vapour plenum (6). The housing is externally heated.
