The method involves providing a testing part (16) that is arranged in a cavity (34) for determination of a center point (24) of the cavity. The center point of the cavity is determined by utilizing a measuring device (12) and by a laser tracker measurement or optical measurement. The cavity for a measuring object is provided with a measuring geometry. The cavity is formed in a support unit that contains permanent magnets. An independent claim is also included for a measuring system for performing a method for determining a center point of the cavity.
