The system has an airbag, which is folded up and inflatable by a gas generator, where the airbag is installed in a door interior trim panel of a motor vehicle and extends from the door interior trim panel into an internal space of the vehicle, in the unfolded condition. The airbag (11) has lugs (12), which are directly fastened to corresponding pins (3) at the door interior trim panel in the installed condition, and fix the airbag at the door interior trim panel.
