Device for illuminating an aperture plate (P) of an optical system comprises a source (1) which releases an optical bean bundle (S) and a diffractive element (2) arranged in the beam path from the source to the aperture plate. The beam bundle is bent to produce the required illumination of the aperture plate. An independent claim is also included for a method for the illuminating an aperture plate of an optical system using the above device. Preferred Features: An imaging lens module (3) formed as a collimator and/or zoom system is arranged between the diffractive element and the aperture plate. A screen (6) for shadowing the bending order of the diffractive element is arranged in the aperture plate.
