The closing device has a closing member (21) mounted on a stationary body part (20) and a catch (11) mounted on the movable body part (10). A push rod comprises two or more levers which are connected together through an elbow joint to form a pair of elbow levers (40) which is normally bent forward in a rigid position. In the event of an emergency if the motor (30) fails an emergency actuator acts on the bend area to overcome the rigid action whereby the input end (43) of the elbow levers remains stationary but as a result of the emergency actuation not only the output end of the elbow levers but also the catch (11) is moved. The rigid action of the elbow joint is produced through a shoulder on the lever on the input side and through a counter shoulder on the lever on the output side.
