Recovery of iodine from iodo-organic compounds comprises chemically treating an aqueous solution containing iodo-organic compound in a reactor for the formation of an elementary iodine in the presence of an oxidizing agent, supplying a gas into the aqueous solution for separating the elementary iodine from the gas current and separating the solution, where the gas is a gas containing ozone.
