Electro-deposition painting installation recovers paint solids for re-use and ultra-filtrate for rinsing by temporary retention of paint on an electro-deposition filter surface

Electro-deposition painting installation has an electro-deposition ultrafiltration unit (14) which comprises a non-adhesion surface pack (12) which is made paint-solids attracting, on an intermittent basis, by application of electrical current. The temporarily deposited paint solids are eluted with paint medium liquid and recycled to the painting bath. An independent claim is included for a batch or semi-continuous process for recovery and re-use of paint fluid by use of a non-adhesion paint deposition surface (12,16) which is made paint attracting by imposition of an electric current to generate ultra-filtrate liquid which can be used for work rinsing. After switching off power to the non-adhesion paint deposition surface unit, the deposited paint solids are re-suspended in paint medium, within the filter chamber, and returned to the painting bath. After use the recycled rinsing water is also returned to the bath.
