The drive train (12) for a motor vehicle (10), with two driven axles (HA,VA), has a gearbox with seven gear steps to take the drive from the motor (14) through a twin-clutch gearbox with two parallel part-drives and a single output shaft. A power distribution unit (24) delivers the power to the two axles. Electric machines (18,20) are at the part-drives. The gearbox spread between bottom and top gears is =9 and preferably =7.5.
