The device has a pneumatic source (8) for introducing fluid into a gap (3) between an upper surface of a measuring shaft (2) and a body to be measured (1) such that the upper surface and the body are arranged and centered automatically relative to each other during a measuring process. A measuring device (5) applies electric voltage between each measuring surface (4a-4d) and an upper surface. The device measures a capacity between each measuring surface and the upper surface, and determines a diameter of the upper surface in the area of each measuring surface by evaluating common capacity. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring cylindricity of a cylindrical and electrically conducting upper surface of a body to be measured.
