Device has two camera computer systems which are assigned to spatially separated light signal systems, as well as a central traffic simulation computer. A traffic simulation is carried out by the central traffic simulation computer on the basis of the data of the distributed camera computer systems and by data of XFCD (Extended floating car data) vehicles. The light signal systems and speeds of the road users can be varied in the simulation control phase. A local optimum is determined from the different simulations and the associated parameters for the controlling phases of the light signal systems are conveyed to these by the central traffic simulation computer and the associated speeds for the vehicles are conveyed to the XFCD-vehicles. An independent claim is included for method for traffic control.
