The method for cutting a paper web (2) which is being wound on to a reel (14) via a support roller (4) comprises moving a radial arm (8) so that a support surface on its outer end is positioned between the web and the support roller. A pressure pad (11) is moved to hold the web against the roller and a cutter (13) moved to cut the section of web resting on the surface of the arm. An independent claim is included for a paper web winding machine for use in the method.
