Process to smooth a paper web by chilling to below zero celsius prior compression by hot drums

A paper mill feeds a fiber web to a smoothing station with a heated smoothing gap formed by two drums (2, 3), one or both of which are heated. Prior to arriving at the smoothing gap the web passes through a chilling station (4, 5) where it is cooled to below -10C.
