The unit has a sensor body (10) in which a hollow measuring gas space (15) and a gas inlet channel (16) connected with the gas space are formed. The body is formed of solid electrolyte layers. A diffusion barrier (17) made of a ceramic material is arranged in the channel. The channel opens out on the outer sides of the sensor body, where the sides are turned away from one another. The channel is completely filled with the ceramic material.
