The method involves projecting a light ring (6) and a light line in an inner wall of a hollow space, where the light line sections the light ring into two points, and the ring is produced by an optical device (4). The projections are recorded with an evaluation camera, and the deviation of the geometrical form of the ring from a reference form is detected and evaluated. The sectioned points of the line with the ring are detected and are evaluated. A signal for detection of position of the camera is recorded, where the surfaces of the ring lies parallel to a cross sectional plane of the space. An independent claim is also included for a device for examining a hollow space with a camera.
