Oxidative purification of oxygen-containing gases, e.g. air, comprises cold plasma treatment with free radicals and oxidizing molecules produced by silent electric discharge from a dielectric device with an internal electrode comprising electrically conductive fibres. An independent claim is included for a device for cold plasma treatment of oxygen-containing gases by application of high frequency alternating voltage to a single or fan electrode and conductive fiber packing. The device typically comprises a carrier envelope of lime-soda glass, 6-8 mm diameter and 6-12 mm length, with a wall thickness of 0.8-1.2 mm, containing a conductive packing, e.g. stainless steel wool of 0.01-0.04 mm diameter fiber, and surrounded by an external grid electrode of 1.4-2.1 mm diameter conductors, to which is applied a smoothed 25 kHz potential of 1400-1700 V. At least one of the two electrodes is rigid and porous, or is arranged so that there is a gas flow gap between the dielectric and the electrode.
