The method involves changing a clamping force (F), which is utilized for retaining a work piece (5), using a piezoelectric component unit during development of vibration in a machine unit (9) and/or the work piece. Work piece retaining devices (2a-2c) act on the work piece using the clamping force. The clamping force is provided in the form of torsion clamping force that causes torsional stress on the work piece. The development of the vibration is determined by monitoring a signal of a vibration sensor (10). An independent claim is also included for a machine designed as a production machine and/or as robot.
