The method involves determining the target course value which is larger than the number of switching courses of existing adjustable single or multiple circuits, and interrupting force current based on the determined target course value. The shifting process is then implemented for a brief moment from the neutral position of the automatic transmission, such that special cases or special driving function circuits are operated to permit larger changes of translation according to a predetermined normal program.
