The method involves setting a sample counter (D) to a predetermined value, when a de-bouncing counter (C) reaches a threshold value. A data signal is generated when the counter (D) reaches a predetermined value. The data signal is set to one, when the counter (C) has a value which is in the half of the counter range. The data signal is set to zero when the counter (C) has a value, which is in the other half of the counter range.
