For the navigation of the movements of an inserted medical instrument, in a patient, a tomographic three-dimensional image is prepared in advance of the target zone for the working of the instrument. During the operation, fluoroscopic images are made of the working zone and registered with the 3D image. A number of 2D images are computed from the 3D image and overlaid for a perspective view for visualizing. Where there are a number of instruments in use, they are identified individually.
