A ceramic resistance comprises and insulative body and a resistive conductive track. In order to increase the mechanical stability of the ceramic resistance a combination of a sintering ceramic (22) and a precursor ceramic (18,20,21) is used. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) A green ceramic body of the above comprising a substance that reacts to an oxide, carbide or silicide on heating and volume expansion;and (B) A ceramic heating device, especially an incandescent rod heater.
