Aircraft structure protection, against damage from birds in flight, is an outer skin of glass fiber reinforced aluminum with a hollow zone to allow skin distortion through an impact
The protection (1) for an aircraft structure (5), to prevent damage from striking birds in flight, is an outer skin (2) of glass fiber reinforced aluminum (GLARE). A hollow zone (7) is retained between the structure and the skin to allow the skin to distort, on being struck (F) on the outer surface (8) without damage to the underlying structure. The skin has a number of ribs (4) on the surface (3) towards the structure.
