A roof mounted airbag system, especially for rear seat passengers, has the folded airbags stowed behind the interior roof trim and deployed via prepared fold lines which open parts of the roof trim. The fold lines are on the concealed side of the trim. The ends of the trim are secured to the vehicle frame by metal; connecting plates (8) to accommodate the strong tensile forces exerted onto the trim when the airbags are deployed.
