The device has guide rails (7) arranged in an examination area (5) and mounted in a gradient coil unit (6). The rails have a device (9) for double-sided axial fixing of the gradient coil unit in a mounted position in the examination area, and longitudinally slide the coil unit till the axial mounting position. Fixing units (12) are attached in the gradient coil unit and deform the gradient coil unit in the examination area against the guide rails in the mounting position. The rails have a slide coating (8) e.g. polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or are made of a sliding material e.g. PTFE.
