This gradient magnetic field coil unit for a magnetic resonance imaging device is provided with a plurality of gradient magnetic field coils for forming a gradient magnetic field in tri-axial directions orthogonal to one another. At least one of the plurality of gradient magnetic field coils has a conductor running along a coil pattern and a retention section for retaining the coil pattern. A flow path for a cooling medium having a non-constant cross-sectional area is formed in the retention section and/or the conductor. Also formed is a flow path for a cooling medium, in which at least a part of the conductor constitutes a wall surface.
