The method involves optically reading a document to be copied, and detecting characters (6), words formed from the characters and structure of the words contained in the document using an optical character recognition (4). The detected characters are digitalized, and the characters and the words are verified with reference characters (16) in a database (14). The detected characters that are not matched with the reference characters in the database are identified and graphically highlighted, when the copy is outputted to a printing unit (48). An independent claim is also included for a photocopying machine for implementing a photocopying machine controlling method.
