An automatic cruise control vehicle (ACCV) (12) has a distance/speed control unit with a radar device (RD) to detect objects in front of the ACCV. The RD detects objects in a +/- 8[deg] angular range in front of the ACCV. A widened travel tunnel (41) results during a longer travel sequence or more twisting on motorways or country roads. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a motor vehicle's speed with a distance/speed control unit and a distance sensor to identify objects within a detection range.
