Necktie stretcher (1) for use during cleaning, steaming and/or ironing is formed as a single forked piece comprising two prong sections (1.1, 1.2) elastically connected together through a head section (1.3). An independent claim is also included for cleaning a necktie by stretching the tie on a stretcher as above, placing the tie and stretcher in a mesh washing bag, and machine washing the tie in the bag.
