The method involves regulating air composition based on the fresh air supply initially being measured by means of the operating parameters of the air supply of the motor vehicle. The carbon dioxide concentration in the interior space of the motor vehicle is subsequently calculated on the basis of the number of persons situated in the interior space. If the calculation yields an exceedance of a carbon dioxide threshold value, fresh air is supplied to the interior space of the motor vehicle in a targeted fashion.
