To fix cutting tool (1) on holder on its front face (7) next to at least one side edge (11), tool is provided with laying surfaces, which alternatively form indentations and projections. Projections are formed by at least one group of grooves (19) protruding from the facing surface, each group forming circular ring sections. The ring sections run concentric to the mid-point belonging to each group or each ring section is given its own mid-point. Ring sections with their own mid-point have the same radii. Indentations are formed by cuts between grooves, which are bordered by the flanks (29) of the grooves.
