The machine has an internal air circulation system for cooling a stator (10) and a rotor (14). An outer fluid control system includes cooling ducts (52) for conducting cooling gas e.g. air, and coolant e.g. water, for cooling the air in the internal air circulation system. The machine is designed such that the cooling gas and the coolant are conveyed alternatively into the cooling ducts. A housing encloses the cooling duct and is formed as single piece with a bearing shield-section (28).
