The vehicle has an optical detection device (1) arranged for monitoring external space of the vehicle and for the detection of objects and climatic conditions in the surrounding of the vehicle. The optical detection device comprises a light source (11) for generating a simulated light pattern on a component of the vehicle. The optical detection device is arranged for the collection of the light pattern, and the climatic conditions depending on the collected light pattern. An independent claim is also included for a method of operating a motor vehicle.
