The device has two sensors (2, 3) with detection regions (4, 5) that are covered, and arranged at respective vehicle sides of a vehicle (1). An edge region of the detection regions of the respective sensors is extended along the respective vehicle sides. The detection regions of the individual sensors are covered in a region, so that a common point lies on a vehicle front or rear or the side in the detection regions of the sensors. The detection regions start along the respective extension of a vehicle edge. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting an imminent collision by two sensors.
