To obtain a desired torque (Msoll) from the drive train, this torque is developed predominantly by the electrical machine and applied to the drive train. At the same time, the internal combustion engine is driven at low torque, or in over-run. To generate the over-run command (Bschub) for the engine, a comparison is made. The difference between the desired driving torque and the drag torque of the internal combustion engine is compared with the maximum possible electrical machine torque (Mmg max) multiplied by an applicable value (Kmg).
