The hybrid drive train has a forward overriding drive (1) into which the input power from an internal combustion engine and two electric motors are fed. The overriding drive has two output members (h2, h1) of which the first can be coupled through a first clutch to a first input member (S) of a rear translation gearing (2) and the second output member can be coupled on the one hand through a second clutch to the first input member and on the other hand through a third clutch to a gear output shaft (4) which is connected rotationally secured to the output member of the rear translation gearing. Independent claim describes shift process for a power split hybrid drive train with step-free driving areas and fixed gears so that a gear change from a step-free driving range to a fixed gear only takes place when the speeds of the clutch halves at the shifting clutches have equalised.
