Modified crystalline form I, II and III of 3-chloro-N2-[(1S)-1-methyl-2-(methyl-sulfonyl)ethyl]-N1-{2-methyl-4-[1,2,2,2-tetrafluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)-ethyl]phenyl}phthalamide (A), where the form I is characterized by an X-ray-powder diffractogram using copper potassium alpha (Cu-Kalpha )-radiation exhibits the reflex positions of (2theta in degrees) 12.93, 13.24, 14.39, 14.76, 18.51, 18.81, 19.42 or 19.91, form II exhibits 10.29, 11.61, 14.74, 15.28, 15.84, 16.43, 18.50 or 23.89 and form III exhibits 9.50, 13.43, 14.57, 15.52, 16.50, 21.84, 23.22 or 25.79, are new. Independent claims are included for: (1) a process for the manufacture of the modified crystalline form I, II and III of (A); (2) a composition comprising the crystalline modification form I; (3) a composition comprising the crystalline modification form II; (4) a composition comprising the crystalline modification form III; and (5) a method for combating unwanted insects comprising applying the crystalline modification form I, II or III on the insects, its living space and/or seeds.
