Production of a wire or strip comprises producing an intermetallic compound with a melting point of more than 1700[deg] C, grinding the compound, mixing with metal powder, feeding the mixture (2) produced into a tube (1) made from ductile material and deforming the filled tube into a wire or strip. An independent claim is also included for an encased wire or strip used in the production of electrodes or electrode tips of spark plugs.
