Bonding of metallic components used in gas turbine construction, by hot isostatic pressing, first employs inductive press-welding to soften bonded surfaces and eliminate surface irregularities
Low- or high frequency inductive press-welding takes place before hot isostatic pressing of the components. This affects at least one of the surfaces to be bonded, where it eliminates surface irregularities. Both surfaces of the components may undergo the treatment. The operation takes place in a vacuum, or in a protective gas atmosphere. It is effected in such a way, that no thermal alteration zone is formed on or in the connecting surface(s). Frequencies used for low- or high-frequency inductive press-welding, are selected in the range 0.05-2.5 MHz. Before low- or high-frequency inductive press-welding, at least one of the surfaces to be bonded is freed of oxides, e.g. using mechanical means. The components connected, comprise a blade of a gas turbine rotor, and a turbine ring or a turbine rotor disc. During the operation, at least one connecting surface is brought to a softened- and/or molten state, to eliminate surface irregularities. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR correspondingly-bonded component.
