Cold forming process for production a ball and socket as an element of a ball and socket joint with a ball region, a collar region, a taper and/or a cylindrical region. The ball region (1) is formed from a cylindrical region (8) on a pressed blank where the separation plane (9) of the tool le outside the active ball surface and the collar region (5) is formed into a ball region back taper via an isolated stage of the pressing process. The ball and socket joint is formed from a C-Mn steel containing microalloy elements.
