The component (1) has two carrier bands (10,20) and segment (30) with a cutting material for a cutting edge of saw blade and/or saw band. The carrier bands have edges (15,25) and recesses (12,22) in each case, where the carrier bands are arranged in such a manner that the recesses face each other. Each segment (30) is inserted into the recesses and guided over the same transverse axis (18) by two continuous parallel lasers or electron beam welding aligned with both carrier bands. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a starting component of saw blades and/or saw bands.
