The method for determining transverse-profiles of an application medium of a curtain (5)-application unit (1) by a measuring medium, in which is carried out during the application of pigmented coating paint as liquid to pasty application medium on a moving paper-, cardboard- or other fibrous material web, but before the curtain reaches the fibrous web. The curtain application unit has machine-widening discharge nozzle (8), which delivers the liquid to pasty medium (4) as pigmented coating paint on moving paper-, cardboard- or other fibrous material web during its production and/or refinement. The method for determining transverse-profiles of an application medium of a curtain (5)-application unit (1), in which a measuring head (15), which is traversed in transverse- and/or width direction of the application unit and that is arranged over the width direction in distributed manner, is used, which carries out the measurement for the transverse-profiles at arbitrarily selectable positions within the width of the nozzle. The measurement is carried out with ionizing radiation during the application of the paint as liquid to pasty medium on a moving paper-, cardboard- or other fibrous material web, but before the curtain reaches the fibrous web. The curtain application unit has machine-widening discharge nozzle (8), which discharges the paint on the web as a curtain that can be freely fallen and moved as a result of force of gravity, during the production and processing of the web. During the moving of the curtain, a measurement for the transverse-profiles is continuously carried out in each area of the coated fibrous web. The measurement is carried out before the curtain discharges on the moving fiber web or is taken up by a collecting aggregate. The measurement is carried out an outside of the coating procedure, but before the falling curtain reaches the collecting aggregate. At the measuring positions a defined part of the falling curtain is separated and is led into a measuring beaker (10). The collected medium passes through the measuring beaker and forms equilibrium and/or an excess quantity, whose weight is measured by a balance (16) connected with the measuring head. The balance works on the basis of a full bridges with electrical resistances and is operated with dissolution between 0.1-1 g. The traversing of the measuring head is carried out by hand or automatically. An independent claim is included for a device for carrying out a method for determining transverse-profiles of application medium of a curtain application unit.
