The curtain application unit (1) for coating a moving paper-, cardboard- or other fibrous material web (2) with liquid to pasty application media (3, 4, 5), comprises a nozzle block (6), which is spatially arranged from the web and corresponds to the width of the web, above the fibrous material web with two parallel application medium chambers, from which a slot-shaped supply gap (10) braches-out to form three slot-shaped exit nozzles at the surface of the nozzle block for application medium layers to be delivered. The exit nozzles are uniformly arranged parallel to each other. The curtain application unit (1) for coating a moving paper-, cardboard- or other fibrous material web (2) with liquid to pasty application media (3, 4, 5), comprises a nozzle block (6), which is spatially arranged from the web and corresponds to the width of the web, above the fibrous material web with two parallel application medium chambers, from which a slot-shaped supply gap (10) braches-out to form three slot-shaped exit nozzles at the surface of the nozzle block for application medium layers to be delivered. The exit nozzles are uniformly arranged parallel to each other. The nozzle block has a sliding surface present at its surface. The sliding surface merges into a peel-off edge pointing in the direction of the fibrous material web to be coated. The application medium layers replace itself from the peel-off edge and mutually form a two-layered curtain, which sequentially falls down from the peel-off edge by the force of gravity. The exit nozzle is directly arranged to the peel-off edge, so that the application medium layer delivered from the exit nozzle not runs off to the sliding surface of the nozzle block. The discharging direction of the exit nozzle corresponds with the direction of the application medium layer, which releases itself from the peel-off edge. The application medium layer, which is delivered from the exit nozzle directly arranged at the peel-off edge, is influenceable in its outflowing speed, has high outflowing speed than the application medium layer delivered from the further exit nozzle and forms a carrier layer for the other application medium layers. The exit nozzle is adjustable in its nozzle width and has a less nozzle width than the further exit nozzle. The application medium layer forms the lowest layer and/or the middle layer of the multiple layers on the fibrous material web. An independent claim is included for a method for coating a moving paper-, cardboard- or other fibrous material web with a curtain application unit.
