The fireplace or stove (10) has a hot water retrofit unit with a heat exchange through which water flows and which is acted upon by the fire burning in the fireplace or stove. The heat exchanger is connected to the heating system of the building. The heat exchanger comprises a tube which is formed into one or more tube spirals (14) or a number of loops, whereby the tube spiral comprises closely following rings. Independent claims are included for the following: (A) a device for the bending of a tube spiral adaptable to the dimensions of the furnace (28) of the fireplace or stove; and (B) a hot water retrofit unit for a fireplace or stove.
