The arrangement has a rod-shaped magnetostrictive waveguide (16) with associated evaluation electronics for determination of position of position magnets (18) that are movable along the wave guide. The waveguide lies radially outside and is arranged in a guide tube (15), where waveguide is arranged parallel to the guide tube. A slide (14) is guided in the guide tube that is made of non-magnetic material e.g. aluminum. The position magnets are arranged at the slide on the guide tube and adjacent to the waveguide at a sliding piece (12) that is guided within the guide tube.
