The device has an offset compensator (1.5) for determining an offset error of an output signal of a sensor unit (1.1). An adjustment device tracks the limits of multiple utilization ranges in a signal processing chain (1.2, 1.3) on the basis of the determined offset error. The offset compensator has a resting value-output, where a resting value of the sensor unit lies against the resting value-output. The adjustment device has a subtractor that is supplied with the resting value and a reference value for limiting the offset error of the sensor unit. An independent claim is also included for a method for adjusting a utilization range of a signal processing chain for a sensor unit-output signal.
